Interview with Joeisawesome

Greenflash: You've been on scratch for more than a year. What was scratch like in the past? Was the website an different?
joeisawesome:In the past Scratch had a more "varied" front page, so to say. Names like Bluestribute, Bobby500, or Newareagle were always seen up there. Forumwise, it was only recently until they made Inspiration & More and Text-based games. All we would post in was the Show and Tell Forum.

G: What improvements would you like to see in the next version of scratch?
j:Perhaps a gravity block would be nice, so you could do less coding for jumping and falling. And maybe a Free-form Select tool for the Paint Editor.

G: What improvements to the website would you like?
j:Seeing the everllasting conflict caused by the lack of games and too much art on the Front Page, a filter would be in suggestion. When uploading a project, you have two options to put it in: Games, or Arts. Then the Games would have a "Top viewed, loved, remixed, downloaded, etc." on the Front Page, and same with the Arts.

G: Any thoughts about the future of the front page?
j:Hopefully they will do something to destroy the battle between Games and Art on the Front Page.

G: What "era" of scratch are we in?
J:Personally I have to say we are in the era of Forum Dragon Hatching.

G: What is something special about this time in Scratch history?
j:We get to see some art on the Front, which we never had back in the day.

G: What are a few things you think the next "generation" of Scrathers will remember about this time?
j: The dragons.

G: How do you want to leave your mark on Scratch?
j:To make sure that all members, old or new, carry on our traditions and make us live on.

G: What do you think every new member should know about Scratch?
j:It may see tough at first, but trust me, you'll get the hang of it, and maybe even get Front Page!

Educators Section Closed

From past issues of the newspaper, you may have heard about the recent addition of ScratchEd. On a completely different site, it doesn't really effect us does it?

Recently, the entire educators section has been closed to posting and has been moved to the ScratchEd site. Under the section description it says: "Discuss how you're using Scratch in education. Closed to new posts and moving to scratched.media.mit.edu". And it's true, you can no longer post there.

Investigating more, I clicked on the sticky titled "ScratchEd", and discovered the topic was closed to "keep the Scratch educator community discussions in a central location on ScratchEd" according to karenb, a member of the scratch team.

iamrpk: What is a fakedex?
A fakedex is short for fake pokedex. You can make many fakemon (fake pokemon) that you think would be good for a pokemon game.
iamrpk: Do you have any fans for your fakedex?
The main people who look at my fakedex are Mr Mokey, Robotkitty, and Joeisawesome. some times Igglepie.
iamrpk:  Who inspired you to make a fakedex?
Well, i really enjoyed looking at other peoples fakedexes. Also, I liked making fakemon. So I thought I could just post my pokemon on scratch and have a fakedex.
iamrpk: Who is your favorite fakedex character?
Well from my fakedex, I like my water starter Manasea. His 2 evolutions are Manice, and then to Unice.
iamrpk: Any last thoughts?
I am a fan of the Scratcher Newspaper so its great that I get to see my fakedex in it. Scratch on!  smile

The Age of RPG's

RPGs, or role playing games, are all over the text-based games section of the forums. The most popular include WOTF RPGing, Space RPG, Secrets RPG, Demons RPG, and Custom RPG. Other smaller RPG's are created often, and emerge as larger RPGs as more people join.

Why are the RPG's so popular? There's something fun about playing as another character, and in an RPG, that's the whole point. Also, there is a larger interaction with other players, and we've seen small RPG's get many pages of posts overnight, especially if a few of the members are online at the same time.

Looking for an RPG to join? Check out Creation RPG, Zoo RPG, Used car salesmen RPG, Make your own Gym Leader!!!, and if your feeling really up to it, Stocks!

Have fun RPing!

What Happened to the Front Page?

Recently, the front page, in particular the Top Veiwed Lately section has been crowded with __________ found the _________ doll projects! Strangely enough, there has been no sight of it in top remixed. But maybe that's a good thing.

These simple doll projects have sparked an outrage among the scratch community, a bit like an aftershock after the large protests a few weeks ago. But the creator, nikkiperson2 is defending herself. And I don't blame her, it's not her fault people decided to remix.

But the reaction is varied. Here are the reactions, taken from the forum topic OMG top viewed is filled with ____ found the ___ doll projects!, by Link:

cheddargirl: I don't hate remixes, but this one seems to be getting out of hand. It would be nice to see something else there beside a '_ found the _ doll' project.

littletonkslover: Yeah there pretty much all the same but oh well they're not bad. It's really not their fault. They are simply having some fun and the project got viewed a lot.

nikkiperson2: I didn't mean for it to get out of hand like that, everyone just kind of started remixing it ;_; I should probably draw the line, and tell people to stop remixing it. there's almost 100 already, last time I checked it was up to 91. I just put in the description that I want people to stop, but I think it's too late for that. People are remixing remixes, and therefore won't get the messege. And I don't want people to stop remixing ALL of my projects FOR GOOD, I just don't want it to go so...overboard.

The-Whiz: Wow... I can't believe it...

Escape to a New Earth (Continued)

Author's Note: Please do not criticize this for the religious content; there will be some cool sci-fi later on  wink

Having translated the rock, Quinn realized that there must have been another righteous family in Noah's day that had escaped the Flood somehow.  Perhaps he could find out how if he looked for more rocks...
Looking around the place where he found the first rock, he found several more with the same strange writing on them.  Pieced together, they all said:
There was another Noah.  He and his family escaped the ancient Flood by the use of a spacecraft, and they traveled to a more habitable planet.
Quinn paused and wondered how the 'other Noah' had managed to build a spacecraft in those days.  He looked down and froze when he saw the last line:
As instructed by God, he built another spacecraft and left it on Earth for the Third Noah to use.
Quinn rushed home and told his family about the dream, and about his discovery.  Suddenly, on the news came a warning from the Astronomers' Organization, saying that they had found an area of activity in the Sun capable of producing a giant solar flare.  The organization also stated that the flare could engulf Earth within a week!
"So this is it," said his father.  "The judgment by fire.  So, I guess you have one week to find that space whatever-it-is and get out of here."
As he was getting up to leave, Quinn accidentally tripped on a wire that was running across the floor.  When he followed it to the end, he found a listening device.  Somebody was listening to everything they said!
